Pragmatism vs. Fanaticism: An Expert on Trump’s Peacekeeping Efforts

Trump

Political analyst and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko explained that Trump is trying to solve all the world’s problems through economic gain, but this approach will not work with countries like Russia, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

Foreign Policy writes that economic pragmatism and calculation dominate in the United States. Do you understand the issue? Trump, coming from a business background, believes that everything has its price, that there is some benefit in everything, and that the economy decides everything. This is somewhat reminiscent of Marxism, by the way: the economy as the superstructure of everything. But not for Putin. For him, the economy is only a means of accumulating resources to wage war and realize his own imperial ambitions,” Oleksandr Musiienko explains.

As Foreign Policy reports, he says, the Trump administration wants to offer Putin investments, the restoration of trade ties, and economic cooperation, but this will not work with Putin. The expert also reminds that on the eve of the full-scale invasion, many people said that there would be no war because it was economically unprofitable for Russia.

“Yes, Russia is indeed in poor economic condition, but this is a matter of time. It may still take months, possibly years at this pace. So we need to toughen up. And where is our support? This is where the question must be raised: why not invest in Ukraine? We are ready to implement the agreements related to rare earth minerals and metals. We are ready to be a partner of the United States, provided that security guarantees are given,” Oleksandr Musiienko emphasizes.

With Iran, he notes, Trump also wants to reach some kind of economic deal, but he does not take into account that the ayatollah regime relies heavily on religion and spirituality. The problem, the expert explains, is that the world is diverse, which is precisely why the State Department has various services whose task is to explain how to work with different actors. Therefore, he concludes, economic calculation may work with China, will definitely work with India, but not with Russia—there, as in Iran, fanatic ideas prevail, and thus sometimes one must be prepared to use force.
