“We are facing escalation”: expert assesses whether Trump can stop Russia’s aggression after Iran

Donald Trump, war in Ukraine

Political expert and Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko assessed whether Trump would truly return to resolving the Russian–Ukrainian war after he declared peace with Iran, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this in his blog.

“Although, in general, if you read these agreements, you know, they are not really that different from what existed during President Obama’s time in America, when the United States and Europe also negotiated with Iran about enriching uranium up to a certain limit, about the economy, about lifting sanctions, about investments in Iran, about bilateral and trilateral cooperation. They adopted and implemented this through the UN Security Council,” Oleksandr Musiienko notes.

That is, he emphasizes, it is unclear why such active hostilities in the Middle East were needed, why so many resources were spent only to end up adopting the same kind of document. Moreover, the expert adds, the result clearly does not satisfy Israel and contradicts its interests, as Prime Minister Netanyahu has already stated. Overall, he says, the decision can be described as maximally compromise-based for both Iran and the United States, while allowing them to exit the war, taking advantage of the fact that not everyone may read the details of these agreements or remember what Obama once signed, whom Trump criticizes in the same way as Biden.

“Trump says he will now become heavily involved in the issue of the Russian–Ukrainian war. Is there a window for diplomacy right now? There are doubts, because in the near future we will face escalation. A window for diplomacy and for starting negotiations on a ceasefire may open no earlier than the end of October or around early November. That is in the best-case scenario,” Oleksandr Musiienko comments.

Therefore, the expert concludes, we will currently observe another round of escalation, an intensification of hostilities on the front, exchanges of strikes, and in order to seize the initiative, Ukraine needs weapons, including missiles.
