Trump Delivers First Tariff Blow to Russia’s Ally: Expert Explains Who Will Be Hit with Duties

Trump

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko explained that Trump's decision to impose tariffs on India is a very symbolic moment — the U.S. is moving from words to action, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this in his blog.

As the expert recounts Trump’s explanation for his decision, India is one of the largest buyers of Russian energy resources and weapons at a time when the entire world wants the killings in Ukraine to stop. Moreover, he adds, Trump pointed out that the U.S. does not have much trade with India, so it will be subject to high tariffs.

“This is already a sign of work by strategists and the American deep state. So India will be paying a 25% tariff starting August 1st. Good. In addition, it’s a positive step in terms of breaking India away from its ties with Russia, especially in defense. Let them buy American weapons — there’s no need to fund the Russian military-industrial complex,” commented Oleksandr Musiienko.

Furthermore, the expert adds, the example of tariffs against India can serve as a case study to observe how willing Indian companies will be to stop doing business with Russians — whether they will continue to purchase Russian arms and energy resources, or seek alternative suppliers, which certainly exist.

“That’s important too. This example will be, in a sense, a litmus test. Although it’s not 100%, like what’s being proposed in the bill by Senator Lindsey Graham and others. That bill envisions full 100% restrictions — although initially, the proposed figure was sky-high: 500%,” Musiienko concludes.
