Breakthrough in Waves: Expert Explains How Russian Air Defenses in Crimea Collapsed

Political analyst and serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Musiienko, stated that Russia is facing serious air defense problems in Crimea. According to him, Ukraine is striking targets across the entire peninsula and gradually achieving air superiority, Politeka reports.
He discussed this on his blog.
“The collapse of air defenses in Crimea occurred because the strikes were carried out in successive waves, using swarms of drones. Ukraine is capable of penetrating air defenses in occupied Crimea through these cascading attacks. One of the major problems there is the disruption of the power grid. How are they going to power the radars of their air defense systems in occupied Crimea? Where will the electronic warfare systems and the entire military infrastructure used by Russia get their electricity? All of these consume enormous amounts of power,” Oleksandr Musiienko noted.
The expert explained that radars, electronic warfare systems, and military infrastructure as a whole require a continuous and reliable power supply. While some facilities can be powered by generators, he emphasized that the Russians were unlikely to have anticipated the need for industrial-scale backup capacity. Ukraine, meanwhile, was able to keep its systems functioning through domestic resources and support from international partners.
“The enemy is experiencing problems with air defense systems, electronic warfare capabilities, and radar surveillance systems, without which the operation of any air defense network is simply impossible. They will continue to face serious difficulties and challenges in these areas. Therefore, we must keep working,” Musiienko stressed.
According to the expert, Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck a substation in Sevastopol, the Kirovske railway station, the Simferopol Thermal Power Plant, a military settlement near Kerch, and a strategic warehouse of the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s 133rd Separate Logistics Brigade in Bakhchysarai. In other words, he emphasized, the strikes covered the entire geography of the peninsula—from north to south and from west to east. This, he said, indicates that Ukraine is moving toward what could be described as air superiority and comprehensive fire control, leaving the occupiers with only one option: to withdraw from Crimea.
