The Ukrainian army has dropped two positions and is ranked 20th in the ranking of the most powerful armies in the world according to Global Firepower.

At the beginning of the year, Ukraine has a power index of 0.3755 (0.0000 is considered an ideal indicator), which makes it the sixth most powerful army in Europe.

To determine the power index, the authors of the study take into account about 60 criteria.

“Entering 2025, Ukraine remains embroiled in a bloody war against its neighbor Russia after the latter’s invasion in February 2022. At the peak of its power and with Western support, the country rose in the ranking to 15th place. In subsequent years, the ranking fell as military efforts stalled, and the country is now under threat from weakened Western commitments, a changing European political landscape, and a new American administration. However, the country retains its place in the top twenty,” Global Firepower noted.

Ukraine’s neighbors are Egypt — 19th place (0.3427) and Poland — 21st place (0.3776).

According to Global Firepower’s analysis, the United States is recognized as the strongest army in the world — 0.0744 points. Second place is shared by Russia and China — 0.0788 points each.
