Bill No 13120: Journalist Tells About Changes Being Prepared for Schools

Schools

Journalist Kateryna Kotenkova spoke about the bill that provides for the separation of primary school from secondary and high school, and also sets new requirements for lyceums, Politeka reports.

She spoke about this on the Znay.ua channel.

“In short, bill No. 13120 proposes to sift the network of lyceums through a sieve of such strict conditions, that is, grades 10-12. Not all lyceums will be able to fulfill these requirements, and those that cannot, the state simply will not finance,” says Kateryna Kotenkova.

According to her, the main requirement is the fullness of classes, and it is also the most difficult, since many women with children left Ukraine because of the war. As the journalist says, today the law allows opening 10-12th grades if there are at least 5 students, the bill proposes to raise this bar to 24 students.

In addition, she adds, there must be no less than 4 classes in parallel, now only 2 classes are required, so in small communities it will be difficult to find a total of 300 students to open 10-12th grades.

"Of course, they have not forgotten about primary school, they also want to reform it. In Ukraine, there should be no ordinary schools for us, where you can go from 1st to 12th grades. The senior specialized school will be separated and merged with the basic one, these are grades 5-9, but under no circumstances can it exist together with the primary school," Kateryna Kotenkova concludes.
