Rising Food Prices in Kyiv: Costs Reach a New Peak

The main factors driving food price increases in Kyiv are the war, adverse weather conditions, and rising utility tariffs.

In March 2025, the highest inflation rate of the year was recorded — consumer prices rose by 1.5% in just one month. The trend of rising food prices in Kyiv has continued into April, Politeka.net reports.

According to data from the State Statistics Service, consumer market inflation since the beginning of the year has reached 3.5%.

The primary contributors to this trend are the war, unfavorable weather, and higher utility costs. At the beginning of 2025, food prices rose by 4.2%, and in year-over-year terms — by 17.4%. The largest price increases over the past 12 months include:

  • Eggs — up 44.7%, with an 18.8% rise in March alone due to seasonal factors;

  • Sunflower oil — up 35.4% (with a 1.7% monthly increase);

  • Vegetables — up 32.3% (1.6% increase in March).

According to official data from the Ministry of Finance, the average price for a carton of eggs in April 2025 is 73.50 UAH. The consumer price index during this period reached 102.90%, which includes both regular chicken eggs and quail eggs. However, some supermarket brands are selling eggs at even higher prices — in some cases, over 100 UAH per dozen.

Sunflower oil is also seeing inevitable price hikes in April. In local stores, a bottle costs between 31 and 92 UAH depending on the brand and retailer. The average market price is currently 77.5 UAH per bottle.
