Military Expert Explains Why Russia Didn’t Help Iran in the War Against Israel

Israeli Defense Forces officer Yigal Levin assessed whether the alliance between Iran and Russia might change after Putin failed to assist the Khamenei regime in its war against Israel, Politeka reports.
He shared his thoughts during Valeriy Savchuk’s author program “Different People.”
“I have no idea. I’m not a political analyst, not an expert in Russian politics, and not an expert in Iranian politics. But Peskov has already stated that they [Russia] hope and expect to further develop relations with Iran. Good luck to them—but in this case, all sides are winning,” said Yigal Levin.
As the guest explained, Russia itself is lacking in air defense systems—SAMs—to protect its own infrastructure from Ukrainian strikes. So, he stated, if Putin were to send this equipment to Iran, Israel would simply destroy it. That would mean Ukraine wouldn’t need to deal with it later. Levin also reminded viewers of footage showing Israeli missiles hitting Russian-made Tor air defense systems “as if they were just target dummies.”
“It would actually benefit Ukraine—fewer air defense systems left for Russia itself. So everyone wins, no matter how you look at it. Again, good luck to them. But in this regard, Russia is helpless. By the way, Zelensky put it well—Russia didn’t come to Iran’s aid because it’s helpless, it simply isn’t capable of doing so,” Levin concluded.
