Trump Will Provide Additional Weapons to Ukraine: Expert Explains the Nuance

Political expert and military serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko has stated that Trump has decided to provide Ukraine with additional aid, but it specifically concerns defensive weaponry — and no more should be expected, Politeka reports.
He shared this information in his blog.
“The U.S. is planning to resume assistance to Ukraine, and this is very important and something we need. Trump announced this, but there are important nuances — what kind of assistance and in what volume. Because there's a general statement, but I want to tell you the details, which, unfortunately, are not very positive, not very breakthrough, and probably not exactly what we had hoped or counted on. It’s certainly better than no aid at all, but...,” said Oleksandr Musiienko.
According to the expert, Trump stated that he regrets people are dying and is therefore resuming aid deliveries to Ukraine so that it can defend itself. On the website of the U.S. Department of Defense, he adds, it is also noted that the DoD, on Trump’s directive, is sending additional defensive weaponry to Ukraine — meaning it’s strictly for defense.
Obviously, the expert notes, this likely refers to air defense systems, such as missiles for Patriot systems to shoot down Russian ballistic missiles, and possibly Stinger missiles, military vehicles, radars, electronic warfare systems, and so on. However, it is unclear, he adds, whether this package includes, for example, GMLRS missiles — which are technically defensive artillery rounds — and overall, it’s unfortunate that there is no clarity regarding other types of weaponry.
“But the Department of Defense states that they will continue the ‘America First’ audit. They’re not doing this randomly, and it’s not accidental that they are specifying only defensive weapons. So it’s most likely about air defense, but let’s wait for the full list. However, given the discussions in the U.S. media space and among experts — who agree that American stockpiles are currently dwindling — my personal forecast is this: unfortunately, we shouldn’t expect significant deliveries from the U.S. We need to expand cooperation with Europe and invest in domestic production — that’s the real key for us,” Musiienko concludes.
