The U.S. Cannot Contain China Without Containing Russia: Expert Opinion

China

Political expert and military serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko stated that while Russia is waging war against Ukraine, China is building up its strength to attack Taiwan and deter the United States, reports Politeka.
He discussed this in his blog.

As the expert notes, the Office of the President reported that the number of Chinese components in the Shahed drones launched by Russia at Ukraine has tripled since 2023. Western media are also reporting that cooperation between these countries is intensifying, which could potentially lead to an even larger war. According to Musiienko, China is clearly interested in keeping Russia at war, and this is now openly acknowledged. After Xi Jinping’s approval, Putin might even attack a NATO country.

“China is doing everything it can right now to buy time. China needs Russia to keep fighting against Ukraine. We clearly understand that China supports Russia’s military machine, along with North Korea. North Korea likely wouldn’t be doing this if Beijing were categorically against it. No matter what anyone says, I don’t believe Kim Jong Un is that autonomous from China’s opinion — he is dependent in many ways. So, they support it, and the Russians keep fighting. During this time, China is trying to build up its strength to be able to carry out an operation against Taiwan, to deter the U.S., and to prevent the U.S. from helping its allies in the region,” warns Oleksandr Musiienko.

Therefore, he concludes, if the U.S. wants to contain China, it cannot do so without also containing Russia. However, the expert emphasizes, the U.S. has for some reason decided it might be possible to pivot Russia toward the West and contain China together — but this is impossible, and Xi will not allow it. He adds that China is even ready to sell certain rare earth metals to the U.S. just so Russia doesn’t, and so that there are no ties at all between Russia and the U.S. on this front.

“If they say, ‘We’re containing China, but Russia isn’t important here,’ these are purely political statements that are certainly not based on strategic security analysis. It’s pure politics. Why is it this way? That’s the interesting question,” emphasizes Oleksandr Musiienko.
