"Gazprom Is Worth Less Than a Toy": Expert Explains How Russia Lost the World’s Trust

Political strategist Mykhailo Sheitelman shared that Chinese Labubu toys are now worth more than Gazprom, as Russians, by constantly threatening to freeze Europe, have lost the trust of the world, Politeka reports.

He discussed this in his blog.

According to the expert, Gazprom has become worth less than the company that produces Labubu toys. Labubu, he explains, are Chinese monster-like toys that became very popular because when you buy one, you never know which specific figure you’ll get.

“Gazprom used to be considered a national treasure of Russia. They had slogans like: ‘Gazprom is our wealth, protect it.’ ‘Don’t take too much Gazprom for lunch.’ ‘Gazprom is our joy, take care of it.’ A good old Russian folk saying. And now Labubu has surpassed and outpaced Gazprom. It’s true — Gazprom is now valued lower than Labubu. Fifteen years ago, Gazprom was worth $380 billion, and today it’s down to $38 billion — a tenfold drop. Labubu, on the other hand, didn’t even exist 15 years ago, but today they’re worth $41 billion,” Sheitelman emphasizes.

He explains that the key reason is trust. China doesn’t try to use Labubu as a weapon. There are no promotional videos claiming that without Labubu all of Europe will suffer or die, or that Labubu is some kind of Chinese superweapon. Meanwhile, Gazprom did exactly that — and that’s why its value plummeted. The expert stresses that the main factor in a company’s market capitalization is not the gas or the toy, but the trust that cooperation will be long-term and mutually beneficial.

“But cooperation with Gazprom is now dangerous. No one can afford to work with them anymore. That’s why sanctions were imposed on Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2. Germany doesn’t even want to receive gas through them after the war. There is no trust. And that’s why Gazprom is worth next to nothing, while Labubu is valued at $41 billion. I hope that after the war, Ukraine will create its own version of Labubu — we’ll invent things the whole world wants to buy,” Sheitelman concludes.
