Privacy and Secrecy: Expert Explains Why Trump and Putin Will Meet in Alaska

Donald Trump, Putin

Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik explained that Alaska is an example of land purchase and sale, which makes it symbolic that Trump and Putin will meet there to discuss Ukraine without any eavesdropping, reports Politeka.

He shared this in his blog.

According to the expert, Alaska is a very interesting place for a meeting between Trump and Putin, as this region of the U.S. was bought from Russia in 1867 for $7,200,000. Moreover, he points out, the U.S. bought Alaska along with its population, making it a truly remarkable place that is also geographically close for the leaders of both countries.

"It’s noteworthy how global powers can agree on the fate of vast territories and the people living on them. Why am I mentioning this now? Because the question will be the same again. The question of meeting in Alaska is once again territorial; however, now the fate of Ukraine will be at stake, not Russian or American lands," emphasizes Ruslan Bortnik.

Additionally, the expert notes that Alaska will allow Trump and Putin to discuss their issues in a situation of heightened security, without the ears of China, Europe, or Ukraine—if Zelensky isn't invited. So, he concludes, these negotiations will take place in maximum privacy, allowing Trump and Putin to speak more openly and candidly, as they will be discussing the exchange of territories.

"Yes, it’s formally said that Alaska is also about maritime trade routes, Arctic cooperation... Yes, that’s true, but above all, Alaska is a kind of symbolic backwater that will ensure unprecedented security, privacy, and secrecy for these negotiations, aside from its territorial and human symbolic value," asserts Ruslan Bortnik.
