"Don’t Count Your Chickens Before They Hatch": Expert Discusses When to Expect Results from Trump-Putin Meeting

Donald Trump

Political technologist Mikhail Sheitelman explained that on August 15, Putin will likely once again try to fool Trump, but Europe will cool his enthusiasm, and by September 1, we will hear about new sanctions, reports Politeka.

He shared this in his blog.

Of course, the expert notes, we all hope that the meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska won't take place, but it seems that the summit will happen anyway. At the same time, he points out, it’s very interesting that the Trump administration is already starting to lower expectations for these talks, suggesting that there may be no results, this is just an introductory meeting, and so on.
"I picked a proverb to assess the results of the Trump-Putin conversation: 'Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.' I suggest we observe with a cool head everything that’s happening in places where we can’t influence things. Where we can influence, we will, but where we can’t – let’s observe with a cool head. And before September 1, we shouldn’t draw any final conclusions," Mikhail Sheitelman emphasizes.

According to the expert, it will likely unfold like this: on August 15, Trump will meet with Putin and announce that he looked into his eyes and saw something there. Then European leaders, NATO Secretary General Rutte, and Special Representative Kellogg will try to convince the U.S. president that Russia is deceiving him again, that it’s untrustworthy. This will take a few weeks, and as a result, Trump will cool down a bit and say that Putin's next deadline ends on September 1.

"Here’s my forecast for September 1. I don’t have a forecast for August 15, but I do have one for September 1. By September 1, relations between the U.S. and Russia will be terrible, and Trump will either demand new sanctions be imposed or will shout that Putin is a traitor, a scoundrel, and so on – that he must be crushed, new sanctions must be imposed, and so on," concludes Mikhail Sheitelman.
