Expert Explains Polish President’s Historical Remarks Toward Ukraine: “It’s Politics”

Poland

Professor of Jagiellonian University Bogusław Pacek explained that Poland’s historical claims toward Ukraine are mostly about politics, and that Poles will continue to support Ukrainians, reports Politeka.
He spoke about this on Ruslan Bortnyk’s channel.

“The topic is very complex because we have historical challenges, problems, and misunderstandings. Sometimes this isn’t clear to everyone, either in Ukraine or in Poland. That’s one truth. The other truth is that we are all a new generation, a generation neither wartime nor even post-war, and all these difficulties and problems are tied to the time of the war and the post-war period,” notes Bogusław Pacek.

Of course, he states, in both Ukraine and Poland there are people who use the situation between the countries for political purposes, and the views of the new President Nawrocki are well known. There are also people who place greater emphasis on historical issues. Nevertheless, the professor stresses, such rhetoric exists in every country — it’s like what Trump says, “America First,” which for some sounds like “only America.”

“So, when it comes to the president, it’s politics. This doesn’t mean there is some major new direction, that we will stop supporting Ukraine. We will support Ukraine; we will support a country that is fighting for its future, for its people, for its children. That is absolutely clear. As for politics, there are nuances — but they are very important,” explains Bogusław Pacek.

Overall, the professor concludes, both Ukraine and Poland have made many mistakes, and this benefits neither side. European countries must stand together and help each other in order to prevent the aggressor from achieving its goals — and Russia’s goals are terrifying.
