"Russians Will Ride in Sleds": Expert Explains Why the Russian Army Still Has Fuel Despite Ukrainian Strikes

Oil prices

Military expert Oleg Starikov explained that over the summer, Ukrainian forces successfully struck 95 targets deep in the rear of the Russian Federation. However, strikes on oil refineries have not affected the situation at the front, reports Politeka.

He discussed this on his channel.

“We can already draw some conclusions about the number of hits on specific targets, confirmed by objective control systems. In June, there were up to 20 hits, in July – 25, and in August – about 40. That makes roughly 95 in total. About half of these were oil and gas industry facilities, 20% were railway infrastructure, 15% were defense industry enterprises, 10% were ports and warehouses, and 5% were airfields. In June, the main targets were defense enterprises, but by August, the focus shifted to the oil and gas sector. Statistically, about 1–2 out of every 10 drones reach their target, the rest are shot down,” Starikov says.

As the expert explains, in August, the strikes were mainly focused on the oil and gas sector because it is practically unprotected by air defense systems, and the Russian command believes that private businesses should defend themselves. Secondly, he adds, refineries are structured in such a way that their main technological capacities are located in open areas, making them easy to disable even with small charges.

According to the expert, the tactics used by Ukraine’s drone forces in August have yielded results: about 10 regions faced fuel shortages, which led to rising gasoline prices. However, he emphasizes, this has not caused real damage to the enemy’s defense capabilities and has not affected the frontline situation, since these strikes were outside the broader strategic plan of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and disconnected from frontline operations.

“The history of Muscovy, the Russian Empire, Soviet Russia, and the Russian Federation shows that in this territory, state security has always taken precedence over personal safety. That’s why slogans like ‘Everything for the front!’ and ‘Everything for victory!’ and the principle of ‘guns instead of butter’ are not just words, but a deeply ingrained worldview by which all citizens there live and will continue to live. No one cares about civilian or military losses; only the greatness of the state matters. Russians will ride in sleds, on bicycles, or walk on foot — but there will always be fuel for the front,” Starikov concludes.
