"Orban is probably the happiest one": expert explains what Trump and Putin will discuss in Budapest

Trump-Putin Meeting in Alaska

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko explained that the U.S. has turned the issue of aid to Ukraine into a pressure tool — as a result, Putin wants negotiations with Trump, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this in his blog.

As the expert notes, in the lead-up to the Trump–Putin conversation, the topic of supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles was actively promoted. Special envoy Kellogg, Vice President Vance, and then Trump himself spoke about it. Meanwhile, U.S. Ambassador to NATO Whitaker announced serious decisions. This was covered by all Western media, including discussions of U.S. support for Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries. The cherry on top was a Financial Times publication stating that the U.S. would launch Tomahawks at Russia themselves — essentially direct involvement in the war. Trump also mentioned Ukraine’s desire to go on the offensive, and everything was supposed to be resolved on October 17 during Trump’s meeting with Zelensky.

"Apparently, the U.S. administration intended to slightly change its approach, as it became clear that after the meeting in Alaska and after the visit of Ukraine’s president and European leaders to Washington, there was no progress. Putin refused to meet with Zelensky. And it's unlikely such a meeting will happen at all — I have no expectations here, it’s simply impossible, at least in the near future. But no progress was made. So what needed to be done? Let’s figure out how to increase pressure on Moscow," Oleksandr Musiienko explains.

Thus, he emphasizes, Trump, as a showman, did everything right — he set such an information agenda that it itself became a form of pressure on Russia. A new Cuban Missile Crisis was almost created. And as a result, the expert states, a conversation between Trump and Putin did take place.

"That’s it — the groundwork for a meeting has been laid. But what will they talk about? That’s the real question. And probably the happiest person about all this is Orban. He and his foreign minister, Szijjártó, have already spoken out, saying Hungary supports peace — finally, some constructive dialogue — and that Budapest is ready and already preparing the platform for a Trump–Putin meeting. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov are to begin immediate consultations to prepare the meeting. What will they discuss? Strategic stability, what to do next, whether to agree on a ceasefire, a truce, and so on," Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
