"Trump's Peace Plan": Axios Learns What Ukraine and Russia Will Get

Donald Trump

The United States has presented a "peace plan" to end the war in Ukraine, Axios writes.

What Ukraine gets under Trump's proposal.

"A reliable security guarantee" that includes a special group of European countries and, possibly, also like-minded countries from non-European countries. At the same time, the document is unclear about how this peacekeeping operation will function, and does not mention US participation.

The return of a small part of the Kharkiv region occupied by Russia.

Unhindered access to the Dnieper River, which flows along the front line in some parts of southern Ukraine.

Compensation and assistance in reconstruction. At the same time, the document does not say where the funding will come from.

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant will be considered Ukrainian territory, but will be operated by the United States, and electricity will be supplied to both Ukraine and Russia.

The document also mentions a U.S.-Ukraine mineral resources agreement that Trump said would be signed on Thursday.

Russia, under Trump's proposal, gets much more.

"De jure" U.S. recognition of Russian control in Crimea.

"De facto" recognition of Russian occupation of almost all of Luhansk Oblast and occupied parts of Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia Oblasts.

A promise that Ukraine will not become a member of NATO, although it is assumed that Ukraine could become part of the European Union.

Abolition of sanctions imposed since 2014.

Expanded economic cooperation with the U.S., especially in the energy and industrial sectors.
