The World According to Trump: Expert Explains What the U.S. Plan Offers Ukraine and Russia

Trump

Political analyst Ruslan Bortnik explained that the U.S. peace plan is not fair but realistic, and in many ways it even aligns with Ukraine’s national interests, Politeka reports.
He discussed this in his blog.

“The plan in many respects corresponds to Ukraine’s national interests. Indeed, this plan could be supported. If we briefly describe the essence of the plan in one or two sentences, it comes down to the idea that Ukraine will be rebooted. Ukraine will be geopolitically and politically rebooted through elections and through a new geopolitical status,” Ruslan Bortnik states.

As the expert explains, under this peace plan Ukraine would become a non-aligned state that would not join NATO but would retain opportunities to cooperate with military blocs. It would also become a state within the Western sphere of influence, able to join the EU, and connected with Europe and the U.S. through special agreements — ranging from mineral extraction to financing from a special reconstruction fund. In other words, the expert notes, Ukraine would remain in the Western sphere of influence but would not formally join.

This reboot, he argues, should alleviate Moscow’s concerns about NATO missiles, as well as bring Russia back into global politics and the global economy through the G8, U.S.–Russian cooperation, and the lifting of sanctions. And the cessation of hostilities, the expert adds, should ease Europe’s fears regarding a possible Russian invasion, as Russia would sign a special non-aggression agreement.

“Certain changes must be made, and some points need to be negotiated, but I support this plan. And I fully understand that this plan does not comply with international law — if it still exists. Yes, the plan is not fair, as the President of Ukraine has stated. This plan does not punish Russia for its aggression. But from the perspective of the United States, this plan very accurately reflects the existing military-political balance. Because of its realism and pragmatism, the plan can be implemented at least partially,” Ruslan Bortnik concludes.
