Maps, concessions, and pressure: expert explains when negotiations with Russia will finally yield results

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiyenko explained that the United States is trying to conduct negotiations with both Ukraine and Russia, but there will be no signals from Putin about ending the war without pressure, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this in his blog.
As Trump stated, the expert recounts, Witkoff and Kushner got the impression that Putin wants to end the war, but this is not visible on the battlefield. However, he emphasizes, we should not expect signals from Putin about ending the war — one can even recall the 2015 Minsk negotiations, where there was only pressure. Therefore, the expert concludes, Russia will be ready for peace only on terms favorable to itself or after a military defeat — something still far off, but possible. It will simply take time, a ceasefire, and the accumulation of resources, the mobilization of society, the defense industry, and ties with Europe.
“The terror continues, the Kremlin will try to force us into making concessions. And the main concession Ukraine would have to make was voiced the other day in a Fox News interview by U.S. Secretary of State Rubio. He spoke explicitly about Donetsk Oblast. That is now one of the main issues preventing the continuation of negotiations. Russia continues to insist that Ukrainian forces withdraw from there, while we keep fighting and holding back the enemy,” Oleksandr Musiyenko explains.
He also notes that Trump said Ukraine should have negotiated when he had told us that we lacked leverage, and now many factors are against us; that it takes two to tango; that the meetings with Ukrainians and Russians were good, and so on. In other words, the expert states, it is clear that the United States still has no clear vision. For now, we must wait for the results of the new meeting between Witkoff, Kushner, and Rubio with the Ukrainian delegation led by Umerov. They will obviously discuss concessions from Ukraine — otherwise, the U.S. will distance itself.
“And in his statement, Trump hinted that each subsequent draft agreement and round of negotiations may worsen the situation for Ukraine. Let’s be frank: this is clear both directly and between the lines in the American president’s statement. He emphasizes that the terms should have been accepted earlier; from here on out, they will only deteriorate, and it is unknown where this will lead,” Oleksandr Musiyenko concludes.
