Security Guarantees from the U.S. and an 800,000-Strong Ukrainian Army: Expert Speaks About Progress in Negotiations

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko stated that despite Trump’s impatience, there has been progress on key points of the peace agreement — U.S. guarantees and an increase in the size of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Politeka reports.
He shared this in his blog.
According to the expert, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that Trump is tired of words and discussions and is waiting for action; he is disappointed with both Russia and Ukraine. In other words, she did not specifically blame Ukraine, as the U.S. President has often done recently. However, he continues, Trump later again reproached Zelensky, saying that Zelensky alone dislikes the proposed agreement.
"It’s interesting — how would anyone react if they were handed an agreement while being the victim of aggression, fighting a full-scale war for almost four years, and told: ‘Fully accept your enemy’s terms, sign it very quickly.’ Is that something one could like? No. That is why there is currently a struggle for better points and positions in the final text of the document," Musiienko comments.
In particular, the expert notes, Zelensky stated that the document now includes a provision limiting the size of the Armed Forces to 800,000 troops, and this has been agreed with the military. He adds that it is also important that Trump did not object when a reporter asked about the U.S. commitment to participate in a peacekeeping mission after the agreement — including air support, intelligence, and similar measures. Trump, the expert stresses, responded affirmatively, saying that the U.S. would help with security matters because this is a necessary factor for achieving the agreement.
"And this is important. It truly means that we are moving toward establishing security guarantees. President Zelensky has also stated that there will be a separate agreement with the United States and, as I understand, with European countries regarding security guarantees. So far, according to media reports, unfortunately, there are no specific details. And that is concerning. There are more general statements about the need for a strong military response in case of renewed Russian aggression and the application of sanctions. But sanctions are so-so. We understand that sanctions did not stop Putin from invading in 2022," Oleksandr Musiienko asserts.
