“These are crimes against humanity. The world has no right to remain silent,” – expert on Russia’s strikes on the energy sector

Political analyst and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko said that Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure are crimes against humanity, and that if the West does not help Ukraine today, it will perish tomorrow, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

President Zelenskyy, the expert says, stated that Kyiv’s city authorities lost time and that a штаб (task force) has already been formed. Earlier, he continues, there was a large meeting with the government, regional administrations, and mayors, aimed at accelerating the response to the consequences of the attacks, as the situation is very difficult: there are still buildings without electricity and heating in various Ukrainian cities.

“And in order to intensify partner support, Ukraine has come forward with the idea of an energy ‘Ramstein.’ This is important now because we need spare parts to repair equipment at thermal power plants and other energy facilities. These parts must be purchased from Western countries and others as well. In addition, financial support is needed. I hope this will happen, because Russia has no intention of stopping its terror against energy infrastructure. This is genocide, the deprivation of normal living conditions,” Oleksandr Musiienko explains.

The New York Times, he notes, is writing about the situation in Ukraine’s energy sector, and this is good, because it is a leading publication read by the English-speaking world and it draws international attention. However, the expert emphasizes that the New York Times writes that Russia now wants to make Kyiv uninhabitable, as if there had been no strikes on energy infrastructure before—yet they have been happening since October 2022, they were simply overlooked.

“This is about the fact that when deep winter frosts set in in Kyiv, Russia intensified its campaign to disable the city’s heating and power grids. But this is not just disabling them—it is destruction, it is genocide, it is crimes against humanity. The world has no right to remain silent. We can talk as much as we want about Greenland and Iran, but if the world does not push back against Putin, then nothing matters. Then it’s every man for himself, and international values will lose their weight. The only chance for the West to save itself and live the way it wants—as we want as well, freely, democratically, and sovereignly—is to help Ukraine. There is simply no other path; otherwise, the West will be doomed to perish,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
