A diplomat explained how Russia, with Putin’s rise to power, destroyed Ukraine’s standing: “Billions of dollars were allocated”

Diplomat Dmytro Chekalkin stated that if Ukraine had completed its missile program in time and had responded promptly to U.S. intelligence information about an impending attack, Russia would have already faced a worthy rebuff, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on the program “Vilnyi Mediaprostir” (“Free Media Space”).

“Our main and most powerful diplomat is the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Ukrainian missile technology in particular… There should have been several dozen divisions of trained Ukrainian missile operators who would have delivered a worthy response to Russian aggression. But the activities of hostile agents [prevented this],” Dmytro Chekalkin asserts.

In his opinion, when information emerged from U.S. intelligence that Russia was preparing an invasion, it was necessary to immediately carry out mobilization, prepare fortifications, and declare martial law. However, the program’s guest notes, no one took care of this. Instead, they continued to add markups of $200–300 on Belarusian bitumen, which was purchased in astronomical quantities, with spending many times greater than on Ukrainian weapons.

At the same time, the diplomat recalls how for two years the embassy had been preparing a contract for a global project that was supposed to unite what was then the world’s largest aircraft manufacturer with the Antonov plant. However, due to the actions of Tabachnyk, the negotiations were derailed, even though this could have eventually brought Ukraine to third place in global aircraft manufacturing.

“With Putin’s rise to power, in many countries around the world the activities of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service were aimed not so much at promoting Russian interests as at undermining Ukraine’s interests—disrupting all possible contracts and discrediting Ukrainian weapons. Billions of dollars were allocated for this. I personally witnessed how successfully this was carried out. Let me remind you: in the 2000s, where were Antonov aircraft assembled? In Russia’s Voronezh, not in Sviatoshyn. This is just one example of such treacherous activity,” Dmytro Chekalkin says.
