“Tokayev Has Decided to Speak Out Openly Against the Russians”: Expert Names the Reasons

Tokayev

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman said that, in an attempt to improve relations with the United States, Kazakhstan has gone against Russia and exposed a Kremlin scheme for moving money, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

“Kazakhstan suddenly, for the first time, expressed outrage that the Russian Federation is trying to use it to circumvent sanctions. And it wasn’t just anyone who was outraged — it was President Tokayev personally,” Mikhail Sheitelman notes.

According to the expert, Tokayev said that USD 14 billion had been transferred through one of Kazakhstan’s banks and hinted that all of it came from Russia, adding that there are quite a few similar cases involving fraudulent financial schemes.

“So why did Tokayev suddenly decide to openly oppose the Russians? I think he was threatened. Not personally, of course, but Kazakhstan as a country. Kazakhstan is currently trying to establish trade relations with the United States. Kazakhstan has joined the Council for Peace. Kazakhstan has signed the Abraham Accords. It was already in a state of excellent peace and excellent relations with Israel, but it specifically joined the Abraham Accords. Tokayev traveled to meet Trump within the framework of C5+1 and signed many agreements there as well — I believe they will be buying some locomotives from the Americans, and so on. And now to spoil relations with America because of some Russians who funneled USD 14 billion through a Kazakh bank…,” Mikhail Sheitelman explains.

As the expert emphasizes, USD 14 billion is 10% of Russia’s entire military budget, and it passed through a single Kazakh bank. In his opinion, the EU should take a closer look at this bank ahead of the 20th sanctions package, because if it were shut down, it would be possible to knock out 10% of the Russian Federation’s military budget in one stroke.
