Money and New Alliances: An Expert Explains Why the Russia–Ukraine War Benefits China

China

Political analyst and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko explained why the Russia–Ukraine war is beneficial for China and outlined what geopolitical game is really being played right now, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this in his blog.

“For a long time in the United States there has been an idea, especially now within Trump’s team, that Russia should be pulled away from China and used as an element to contain it. But this does not suit China at all. Just think about it: during the war, Russia has effectively subsidized the Chinese economy by 20 billion dollars. China has saved at least 20 billion thanks to the discounts at which it buys Russian oil and gas. Second, China sells dual-use technologies to Russia at triple the price, and Chinese companies profit from this. They sell above market value. This is more profitable than selling to the West, the East, or anywhere else. And next — China needs Russian resources. Xi is clearly hinting that he would like to expand cooperation and gain access to Russian rare earth elements. And there is a struggle over that,” Musiienko explains.

Meanwhile, he says, Dmitriev traveled to Florida for talks to reach an agreement on U.S. entry into the Russian market, as Foreign Policy wrote. China does not like this, which is why Shoigu is traveling to Xi. Xi has already spoken with Putin and then called Trump.

Therefore, the expert explains, China may support peace talks, but it is not interested in peace in Ukraine. All of this is happening behind the scenes of a global confrontation. According to him, the geopolitical game is moving to a new level — the search for alliances. In this context, the expert reminds of visits by European leaders to China, while the United States is dealing with Cuba and Venezuela and trying to pull Moscow away from Beijing.

“Why don’t they (the Chinese — ed.) call on the Russian dictator to stop? They are not interested, because this fuels their economy and destabilizes NATO. The calculation is that this will break the world order, the policeman and guarantor of which are — and I hope will continue to be — the United States. Europe will fragment and decentralize, anti-Brussels sentiments will grow stronger, and individual European states will move toward China, looking for some kind of global point of support — and it will not be Washington, but Beijing. That is Xi’s calculation. Therefore, we should not expect a breakthrough in negotiations; the war will continue,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
