“Trump May Move to Tough Measures”: Expert Assesses How the U.S. Could Pressure Ukraine and Russia for Peace

Trump

Political analyst Ruslan Bortnik explained that due to the positions of the parties in the negotiations, Trump may strike even harder at Russian oil, while targeting Ukrainian oligarchs and elites, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

“They say that Trump is worried, that Trump is tense. Trump is becoming increasingly aggressive toward the positions of Russia and Ukraine in the negotiation process. And that from internal tension and verbal escapades, Trump may soon move to tough actions against the parties,” Ruslan Bortnik notes.

Halting military aid supplies to Ukraine, the expert states, is no longer an option — it would be crude and ineffective. Such a move would damage U.S. industry and trigger a wave of sympathy for Ukrainians, and Trump would again be accused of playing along with Moscow — especially since Europe is capable of maintaining at least some stability for Ukraine for a certain time. Moreover, he adds, there are more effective tools, such as investigations into Ukrainian oligarchs somewhere in Europe or the United States.

“They will continue to directly cut the logistics of Russia’s energy supplies and reduce the financing of the Russian budget. We are in a different position compared to Russia. On the one hand, Russia is certainly Washington’s enemy and opponent, but many tools of influence over it have largely been exhausted. Everything that could be severely cut off from Russia was already cut during Biden’s presidency. Therefore, it will be attacked head-on or through partners, through trade channels,” Ruslan Bortnik explains.

Ukraine, he states, is dependent on the United States not so much through money and weapons as through its political and economic elites — since every second person has a U.S. passport, relatives in the U.S., children studying in the U.S., and assets and bank accounts in the U.S. And these, the expert emphasizes, are the tools for which Trump would not be blamed. He has not used them so far because he has been pressuring both sides simultaneously, trying not to overdo it and not to derail the negotiation track.
