Truce in Ukraine: UN Responds to Putin’s Proposal

The United Nations seeks to end the war between Russia and Ukraine in accordance with international law and the provisions of the UN Charter.
This was stated on Monday, April 28, by UN Secretary-General's spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric during a media briefing, commenting on the new proposal by Russian leader Vladimir Putin for a short-term truce.
"Our position remains unchanged: we aim to end the war on the basis of principles, consistency, and full compliance with the UN Charter, international law, and existing resolutions," Dujarric emphasized.
He also stressed that any truce in Ukraine must ensure the preservation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Additionally, the UN representative noted that the organization supports any initiatives aimed at the peaceful resolution of the conflict, provided they align with the principles the UN has emphasized "countless times."
Previously, President Zelensky commented on Putin’s proposal for a temporary ceasefire. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its call for a 30-day ceasefire starting from any date.
Kremlin leader Putin announced a truce on the front line. It will be in effect from 00:00 on May 8 to 00:00 on May 11 Moscow time, according to Russian propagandists citing the Kremlin.
